The Vatican released a new doctrinal note offering clarifications on titles attributed to the Blessed Virgin Mary that have been debated for many years. The document, titled Mater Populi Fidelis (“The Mother of the Faithful People of God”), was presented by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and approved by Pope Leo XIV. Its purpose is to clarify which Marian titles and expressions are theologically acceptable and to deepen the understanding of Mary’s role in salvation history without obscuring the unique mediation of Christ. The document stresses that Mary’s cooperation in salvation is real but subordinate to Christ’s redemptive act. EWTN Vatican Correspondent Valentina Di Donato reports.
